The spear is perhaps the most broadly effective melee weapon in the realm. Tipped with a small, leaf-shaped bronze blade, a spear makes a fine offensive and defensive weapon. 

You start with the following ability:

Reach

Strength  If a foe hopes to strike you, they must first get past your spear! When a foe makes a melee attack or tries to take hold of you, you can take -1 guard or awareness to strike them first with a free spear attack. Your attack can’t be countered.You can declare this ability after the foe rolls their attack. Keep the foe’s roll, but resolve your free spear attack first. This ability doesn’t work if the foe also has a spear or a similarly long weapon or appendage. Nor does it work if the foe Outlfanks you, if their attack can’t be countered, or if they’re making a counterattack.

Downward Thrust

Agility  When you jump-attack a foe with a spear or straightsword and your attack hits or strikes armor (before applying bonuses), roll a d4 and add it to the attack along with the other bonuses.Also, the height penalty to your jump-attacks is reduced by 1—but only when you wield a spear. 

Quick Thrust

Agility  When you attack with a spear or straightsword and miss, you don’t provoke a counterattack and can reroll your attack. If you use a straightsword, the reroll has a -2 penalty. This ability doesn't work with jump-attacks or the Reach ability's free attack.

Spear Mastery

Intellect  Gain +1 max Awareness. Your intense study of spear fighting bears fruit. You can take -1 awareness to gain a +2 bonus to a spear attack. You must declare this ability before rolling the attack.
