You’ve learned about the Skysea’s monsters and even how to tame some of them. If you start the game with this lore, you have a tiny monster pet: an octopenguin or a polymermaid (statblocks follow).
You start with the following ability:
✪ Tame
✧ Intellect Take -1 awareness and roll Compel to shift a monster’s regard toward you. Subtract the monster's size from your roll. ✦ Success: The monster’s regard shifts from hostile to wary, or from wary to friendly.⬖ Struggle: The monster can take -1 spirit to cause your compel to fail.ⓧ Failure: No effect.If you’re already in combat with the monster, make this roll with a -2 penalty. Once you use this ability on a monster, you can’t use it again until you rest for one hour. The effects of this ability can be reversed. If you or your allies attack a monster you’ve tamed with this ability, it becomes hostile.Downtime endeavor. If you spend a downtime with a friendly monster, you can try to Tame it permanently as an endeavor. Tell the Guide how you go about this endeavor—what assets you’ll bring to bear, where it happens, how you approach the creature. The Guide will award you an endeavor advantage die. Roll this die along with your Compel die to Tame the creature, and use the higher result. If you succeed, the monster treats you as a beloved companion. ✪ Tame
